The HITECH provisions of the stimulus bill provide for significant incentives for hospitals and physician practices that achieve "Meaningful Use" of certified EHRs. There are still some unanswered questions about what will be required to get incentive payments, but the large gap in current use of EHR systems is clear and so is the direction for defining "Meaningful Use" and certifying systems.

In this white paper, we provide our point of view of what will be required for "Meaningful Use," how systems will be certified, and what organizations need to do now to ensure they qualify for the incentives and are compliant with expanded requirements for privacy, security and health data exchange.
