Taking Advantage of Stimulus Dollars: CSC's Point of View
Author:
Erica DrazenSummary:
The stimulus bill (sometimes referred to as ARRA - the American Reinvestment and Recovery ACT) has significant funding for healthcare in the HITECH (Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health) section of the act. Hospitals and physician practices can receive incentive payments from Medicare and Medicaid if they demonstrate Meaningful Use of a "certified" EHR. The incentives are time limited and by qualifying early, providers will get higher payments. The HITECH provisions also have new requirements for privacy and security, and require the capability for health data exchange. HITECH also provides additional funding for clinical effectiveness research, training of clinicians and IT professionals, and NIH research. The incentive payments are attractive, but organizations need to start now to prepare. Please click on the links below for more information.
