Saving Lives, Saving Money In Practice: Strategies for Computerized Physician Order Entry in Massachusetts Hospitals

As part of its initiative to encourage adoption of CPOE in all Massachusetts Hospitals, the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative contracted with researchers at CSC to compile hospital experiences with supporting the users and the application following the initial rollout throughout the hospital.  The topics addressed in the report include: ongoing user support, optimizing CPOE, ongoing management of order sets and clinical decision support, CPOE and medication reconciliation, and downtime procedures. The content is based on interviews conducted via telephone or during site visits with clinical and IT project leaders in six community hospitals in 2007.
