Standardized Perioperative Framework - Webinar Continuing Education Credits
Webinar Continuing Education
AORN and CSC present this continuing education webinar series on the standardized perioperative framework (SPF). These sessions focus on the development of the SPF and how it works to enhance your current electronic perioperative documentation system. It also shows how Perioperative Nursing Data Set (PNDS), as the universal platform, provides a standardized language, and when incorporating the standards, recommended practices and regulatory requirements, will guide nurses to safer, effective and efficient patient-centered care. When documenting with the SPF data set, the standardized data elements will be used to provide reliable and consistent data model for a national data repository that can provide valuable information for evidence-based practice.Goal: After participating in these activities, perioperative nurses will understand how a standardized language and workflow for perioperative nurses and management will lead to safer, more effective and more efficient patient-centered care. Objectives:
- Communicate the national need for electronic health record
- Discuss the deficits in the current state of the perioperative record and plan of care
- Address the need for a standardized perioperative framework

Evolution of the PNDS Language and Its Significance to PracticeThe creation, growth and development of the PNDS provides a standardized method for perioperative documentation. It provides a method to document perioperative nursing’s value, cost-effectiveness and contributions to allow nurse researchers the ability to compare intervention effectiveness on patient outcomes and develop the evidence base required for standards, recommended practices and guidelines. This webinar will review the historical evolution of PNDS, its integration into the Standardized Perioperative Framework (SPF) and its impact to perioperative practice.
The Benefits of Using a Standardized Perioperative Language and Its Impact for a Data Repository
Perioperative departments document and report information regularly. The work that is needed to create a report from perioperative documentation often requires tedious manipulation and manual involvement. Even with all the scrutiny in creating the reports, the people receiving the reports sometime question the data integrity due to a lack of understanding the data points and often the information falls short of being used for operational decision making, benchmarking and research. This webinar will address the compelling need to standardize perioperative nursing documentation with the PNDS for perioperative nurses and management to guide safer, effective and efficient patient-centered care, which compares intervention effectiveness on patient outcomes.
