Nearly $1.2 billion is now available for states to implement health IT, but how much goes to any one state is largely in the hands of the state itself. States must propose credible plans to initiate and sustain health IT programs, particularly health information exchanges (HIE) and the adoption of electronic health records (EHR). The government is already evaluating the first applications for these funds.
