Meet Michael - Finance Class of 2012
Hi, my name is Michael Mack. I am currently a Financial Analyst under CSC’s finance graduate scheme; so this is the first blog representing team Finance.
MY BACKGROUND
I studied at Hills Road Sixth Form College in Cambridge for my A levels and later the University of Hull, Business School undertaking a BSc in Accounting and Financial Management where I achieved a 1st class honours degree.
I carried out two work experience placements over this period, one at Lloyds Bank and one within a finance operations team at Pharmaceutical Product Development Ltd. I really enjoyed these; they both gave good experience to the world of work and for me solidified my goal of having a career in Finance and/or accounting
INTERESTS/ABOUT ME
Currently, I like to be up to date with new technology - the concept of 3D Printing is pretty exciting at the minute for example. Poker with mates, swimming and horse riding are all outside interests of mine, and I’m also a keen gamer
WHY CSC?
I have a number of reasons why I choose CSC to start off my career; first I have to say is that CSC is one of the world's leading consulting and information technology (IT) services firms. I can relate to its interests (dealing with cutting edge new technology to help develop client companies to achieve greater strategic and operational success). Secondly, the graduate scheme is very impressive; I was offered to be part of CSC’s finance scheme where every 6 months during the 3 years the scheme runs your position/role changes to a new area. Not only does this offer a huge opportunity for wide range of knowledge and exposure to different operations and processes, it also is hugely exciting; these rotations also greatly compliment the ACCA qualification I have started with CSC.
WHAT I DO
My first role, which I am completing at the minute, is participating in Transactional Shared Services (TSS) which undertakes high volumes of financial tasks which are on average transactional based and repeatable in nature.
My role within TSS is centred upon supplier statement invoice reconciliations with a focus upon process improvement and standardisation. At this time I am working on a number of small projects to increase a number of different processes efficiency. For example, I’m working on a excel macro to pull data from SAP (Our accounting software) as well as other worksheets into a template excel workbook – which would then reconcile all the data and better functionality of Lotus notes specifically for the AP role.
So that’s a bit about me at CSC, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask!
