CSC PRIME ALLIANCE DELIVERS FIRST CADE RELEASE

Selected 1040EZ Taxpayer Returns Move to Modernized System

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Aug. 10 – Computer Sciences Corporation (NYSE: CSC) today announced that the CSC-led PRIME Alliance has delivered the first release of the Customer Account Data Engine (CADE) to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). For the first time in more than 40 years, a modernized system is processing live returns in a new way.

Designed to replace the IRS central database of taxpayer account information, CADE began processing and initiating refunds for filers whose 1040EZ tax returns met a specific range of taxpayer information.

“CADE is at the heart of the IRS’s modernization efforts, and this event marks an important step forward in transforming the nation’s tax processing system,” said Paul Cofoni, president of CSC’s Federal Sector business unit.

The CADE system is scheduled to be phased in over several years. Ultimately, it will replace the complex and aging system the IRS now uses to store tax return data from more than 200 million individual and business taxpayers. It replaces an antiquated system called the Master File. The magnetic tape-based system, which came into use four decades ago, takes a week to update taxpayers records and creates delays in providing accurate account information for taxpayers. When completed, CADE will provide a variety of benefits to taxpayers, such as faster refunds along with daily postings of transactions and updating of accounts.
