How CSC Can Help

Since our first contract with the FAA more than 35 years ago, CSC has helped governments meet the challenges of transportation. CSC’s relationship with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) began in 1972, when the company won a contract to develop simulations of traffic patterns and safety issues. This led to a 1976 contract to support development of the agency’s EnRoute mainframe legacy system, which processes flight plan and radar data to determine aircraft locations, updating controllers every six seconds. To this day, EnRoute tasks are an important aspect of CSC’s work with the FAA.

For the last decade, CSC has worked closely with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s John A. Volpe National Transportation Systems Center. A CSC-led team of 240 program/project managers, software engineers, programmers and analysts provides full life-cycle information systems and technology support for technologies of strategic importance in taking the nation’s transportation systems into the 21st century.

Among several important areas of focus at the Volpe Center are next-generation devices that manage congestion on roads, ease bottlenecks, cut down on driving time and enhance safety dramatically by providing traffic operators/drivers with real-time access to traffic conditions.CSC has been closely involved in the research and development of these intelligent transportation systems (ITS), and has supported states such as Colorado and Maryland in implementing such systems.
