TEAM CSC WINS SECOND ANNUAL AMGEN TOUR OF CALIFORNIA
Communiqués -- Février (mois) 26, 2007
World’s #1 Team Dominates 600-mile Tour for the Second YearEL SEGUNDO, Calif., February 25 – Computer Sciences Corporation (NYSE: CSC) today announced that Team CSC won the team competition in the second Annual Amgen Tour of California. Team CSC’s riders’ cumulative time during the eight-day, 600-mile cycling race through California was lower than the 18 other top professional teams.
Discovery Channel Pro Cycling Team's Levi Leipheimer was the overall race winner. The week long event, which concluded today in Long Beach, took the riders from San Francisco through the state’s premiere wine country, redwoods and the Pacific Coast.
Four Team CSC riders placed in the top six- with Jens Voigt capturing second place and one stage win during the 155-kilometer third stage from Stockton to San Jose. Newcomer Juan Jose "J.J." Haedo secured his first victory with the team with two stage wins during the Tour. Haedo won the 186-kilometer second stage from Santa Rosa to Sacramento and the sixth stage from Santa Barbara to Santa Clarita. This makes Haedo the rider with most stage wins in the race. Haedo also won the points competition in the Tour.
“We are delighted to see the continuing growth of American interest in professional cycling confirmed by the enthusiasm and large crowds that have turned out now for the second year in the Tour of California,” said Bjarne Riis, owner and manager of Team CSC. “The race is drawing the very best of the superstars in world cycling and we are pleased that we have held our ranking against such a talented and world-class group of riders.”
Team CSC is sponsored by CSC, a leading global information technology ( IT) services company, headquartered in El Segundo, Calif. CSC is also the official 2007 IT sponsor of the Amgen Tour of California. Team CSC is headquartered in Denmark and includes some 30 top cyclists from around the world.
As the official IT sponsor, CSC provided wireless global positioning system (GPS) object field tracking to help fans follow riders and teams throughout the race. The GPS capability is part of CSC’s new OmniLocation suite of location awareness technologies designed to provide safety, security and accountability services to its clients worldwide.
CSC used the tracking technology to provide cycling fans with a Google Maps view of select race leaders and vehicles at www.csc.com/toctracker. Using GPS and general packet radio service (GPRS) technology, the system offers a near real-time “bird’s eye” view of multiple objects moving at speed and in close proximity along with information detail previously available only at ground level. During the Tour, CSC supplied the data, which allowed the entire field to be seen visibly moving over the race course. Tagged riders carried 90-gram field trackers, which communicated data through the T-Mobile GSM network. The geographic information system also displayed rider locations through Adobe Presentation media at www.amgentourofcalifornia.com.
Competing on Team CSC’s international squad were: Fabian Cancellera (Switzerland), Bobby Julich (USA), Juan Jose "J.J." Haedo (Argentina) Karsten Kroon (Holland), Stuart O’Grady (Australia), Christian Vande Velde (USA), Jens Voigt (Germany) and David Zabriskie (USA).
