CSC’S ZURICH ACCOUNT ACHIEVES SEI CMMI LEVEL 3 RATING FOR APPLICATION SERVICES
Communiqués -- Décembre (mois) 18, 2006
EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Dec. 18 – Computer Sciences Corporation (NYSE: CSC) announced today that operations supporting its Zurich Financial Services account have received the Software Engineering Institute’s (SEI) Software Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) Level 3 rating. All components of CSC’s applications services supporting the Zurich account were evaluated, except for the German-based operations, which have an appraisal scheduled in 2007.Delivery responsibility for the Zurich Financial Services account is part of CSC’s Global Transformation Solutions (GTS) organization, which has units performing at Level 3 ratings globally.
“We are very pleased to see our Zurich account acknowledged by this rating,” said Mary Jo Morris, president of CSC’s GTS organization. “This particular certification underscores CSC’s ability to continually improve operational productivity and efficiency to deliver the services and results that Zurich seeks.”
The SEI is a research and development center chartered to improve software engineering practices. CMMI ratings are awarded after an exhaustive appraisal is conducted involving analysis and review of software development capabilities, processes and products. The appraisal method is defined as the Standard CMMI Appraisal Method for Process Improvement (SCAMPI). The ratings assist buyers in determining reliable and low-risk suppliers of software products and services.
The $1.3 billion Zurich contract, signed on July 23, 2004, is CSC’s largest application outsourcing account. More than 2000 CSC personnel support Zurich globally, providing information technology (IT) development and support needed to run Zurich’s insurance portfolio.
“Achieving this milestone, which was also a critical contractual deliverable, ensures that Zurich’s IT is well positioned to support our business goals,” said Michael Paravicini, chief information technology officer of the Zurich Group.
The SCAMPI appraisal was externally led by Kathy Gallucci, an SEI-authorized lead appraiser, representing the SEI partner, P3I. This global SCAMPI involved three mini-teams at different locations, each lead by an SEI-authorized lead appraiser. While a typical SCAMPI assesses between three and five projects and interviews about 20 personnel, the Zurich account appraisal assessed 19 different projects and interviewed more than 130 personnel.
