CSC’S VP/MS CALCULATION SOFTWARE ADOPTED IN THE U.S.

Innovative Development Tool Speeds ANICO’s New Product Introduction

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., April 23 -- Computer Sciences Corporation (NYSE: CSC) announced that American National Insurance Company (ANICO) of Galveston, Texas, has successfully deployed illustration software for its Standard Life & Accident Insurance Company agents using CSC’s Visual Product Modeling System, VP/MS. The implementation is a first for the U.S. marketplace.

A complete product development tool, VP/MS significantly reduces the development cycle of insurance and other related financial services products. Product designers, actuaries and marketing personnel can collaborate to develop actuarial formulae and table-based rules of considerable complexity in a component structure. VP/MS is a platform-independent system; once developed, the products can be easily ported to virtually any administration or illustration system. The VP/MS product definitions can also be deployed over the Internet.

“CSC is the first supplier to fill the long-standing need for a flexible, high-volume tool that specifies financial services products,” said Paul DeFuria, executive vice president of Life and Annuity Solutions for CSC in the Americas. “We originally developed VP/MS in Europe and have more than 20 licensees in the European financial services market. ANICO’s implementation marks the first rollout of this strategic capability to a U.S. financial institution.”

“We were looking for a solution that would help get new products into the hands of our agents quickly,” said Ken Juneau, assistant vice president of ANICO. “Being skeptical of new technology, we wanted to be sure that the VP/MS software would deliver everything that it promised. ANICO developers tested the VP/MS software by writing four different types of programs: a Java applet, C+, a mainframe program and an Excel interface program. The calculations were consistent and 100% accurate. We were pleased with the outcome of our trial and proceeded to build illustrations for a universal life product and an annuity. ANICO plans to integrate the VP/MS technology with several of our administration systems. Time-to-market has definitely been reduced.”
