While there’s no question technology is transforming the way everyone accesses financial services, it has the potential to be particularly revolutionary to a formerly excluded group – the underbanked. According to 2011 FDIC estimates, the underbanked market group – mostly comprised of low-income individuals and families – includes about 51 million adults and 24 million U.S. households.
