For consumer packaged goods (CPG) companies, the decision to embrace a corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy is relatively easy. Along with economic and social motives, there is also a competitive advantage to gain from offering sustainable products. Plus, major retailers like Walmart have incorporated sustainability reporting requirements as a standard sourcing protocol.
While the decision to adopt a CSR strategy may be easy, the hard part is operationalizing that strategy. The key is to secure the right data and accurately measure performance. This enables a company to judge the progress — and, ultimately, the success — of its CSR initiatives.
