The statement about “Empathize with your customers’ life and business challenges” is a good one.  Companies have a huge advantage in terms of understanding their existing customers and take a step outside their organizations to see how they can change their services/products to better serve their customers.  “Wired to Care,“ a book by Dev Patnaik, talks about empathy to a great degree.

The innovation may not be disruptive in this case but it should be sustaining before the Open Source unseats you.
