In his book “Entreprise mobile”, Charles-Henri Besseyre des Horts, emphasis the challenges that HR managers are facing while managing the Net generation.
Besides that, companies are confronted to manage the multi-generational workforce. The challenge consists in aligning the values of the net-generation and the senior generation.
The values of the net generation are: freedom, customisation and equity. The Net generation is represented by the social and professional network. Net generation does not trust to dramatic speeches on career ascension and corporate social responsibility. Companies will have to prove in action their strategy of sustainable development.
The Net generation is represented by young people born between 1982 and 1988 that are mobile, multifunctional and multimedia.
Net-people lived in groups as teenagers. They are willing to apply the team work spirit in their professional lives. They do not accept individual rewards, meant to weaken the team connexion.
They are spontaneous in their communication and actions (blog, e-mail, and messenger) and they expect immediate recognition.
Baby boomers had maximum five to seven jobs during their lives; net people can exercise five jobs simultaneously. The computer has a social value for the net-generation, it contains personal pictures, videos, favourite sites and they don’t accept to be limited in the use of these tools.
In conclusion, the connexion of talent of the two generation and the harmony of their values within a healthy organizational culture is the key success factor of the corporate competitiveness.
