CSC Celebrates Team CSC Saxo Bank Victory With Donation to Velokhaya Cycling Program

imageCSC congratulates Carlos Sastre and his teammates on his exciting victory at the Tour de France. The achievement also marks CSC’s second donation of 3,000 Euro to Velokhaya, a CSC-led fundraising and awareness campaign for South Africa’s Life Cycling Academy.

The Velokhaya initiative was launched at the 2007 Tour de France at CSC’s European headquarters in Aldershot, England. Since then, founding international partners CSC, Team CSC Saxo Bank and Cervelo have helped Velokhaya raise funds and advance its efforts to build a world-class youth development and cycling training facility in the community of Khayelistsha in South Africa. In addition to a donation for each Team CSC Saxo Bank stage win, CSC and Cervelo are sponsoring the online auction of three, one-of-a-kind Cervelo bikes on eBay. All proceeds from the auction benefit Velokhaya. Bidding on the three CSC bikes—each with a unique, never-to-be-repeated commemorative paint job—closes at approximately 7 a.m. EDT on July 29. Learn more about the eBay auction items by visiting /cycling/auction. To learn more about the organization, visit http://www.velokhaya.com/.

CSC India Boosts IT Education

image
At CSC India, we consistently work toward integrating corporate social responsibility (CSR) into the values, culture, operations and business decisions at all levels of the organization. Our constant endeavor is to bring a positive change to the underprivileged communities by supporting a wide range of socio-economic, educational and health initiatives.

Though the employees volunteer to participate, the CSR initiatives are triggered and executed by the Social Services Committee (SSC), the philanthropic arm of CSC in India. The Social Services Committee at CSC India acts as the torchbearer for all our socially responsible activities and manages the CSR initiatives across locations.

The objectives of the committee are to:

  • Help the lesser-privileged sections of the society through long-term sustainable and measurable initiatives

  • Participate in national, international, governmental and NGO initiatives

  • Support people affected by natural calamities and disasters

  • Offer a platform to employees where they can give back to the society in a meaningful way

Recently in Indore, CSC collaborated with a government school to provide IT education for students. This program covers the basics of computers, Microsoft Office, hardware, the Internet and software programming languages. CSC provided computers and books to the students. In addition, CSC hosted the students during a visit to the Indore office, where students were given a tour and participated in a special class.

A strong promoter of basic and primary education, CSC India has adopted educational institutions to enhance their education standards and equip them with better infrastructure facilities. The organization has adopted schools in tribal villages and slum areas, and sponsored funds for school building, teachers’ salaries, books, school uniforms, computers and other study materials. Computer training is provided to the teachers and primary school children on a continuous basis. CSC India uses IT as an instrument for social development and promoting computer literacy. Many computers have also been donated to government schools and schools in rural remote areas.

Welcome
