Clinical Process
After 30 years of consulting with healthcare providers, we know how to deliver financial results. In the past 10 years alone, we have helped more than 200 systems and academic centers gain approximately $3.7 billion in annual operating improvements. We’ve done this through both narrow and broad-scale interventions, including supply chain, patient access and revenue cycle, operating rooms, patient care units and medical records, as well as full-system turnarounds.
- Supply Chain
For scores of clients over the past few years, CSC has orchestrated supply chain reforms that have returned two to six percentage points to the providers’ bottom lines. Often, we take on risk-sharing projects with incentives for success well beyond the norm, delivering savings amounting to 10 to 20 percent of total supply costs. - Patient Access and Revenue Cycle
Through nearly 20 projects over the past five years, CSC has achieved dramatic results in strikingly short time frames. They include reduction in days in accounts receivable by 20 to 30 percent or more and improved net revenue by up to six percent in 10 to 12 months. - Enterprise-wide Turnarounds
For large-scale turnarounds, CSC deploys a unique risk management model that relies on targets and outcome measures to set goals and monitor performance in concrete, budgetary terms.
Clinical Transformation
Implementation of a clinical transformation process must be supported with a clearly thought out plan driven by cohesive and aligned institutional leadership. For transformation to be effective, health system and clinical care leadership must understand, embrace, and actively support significant change within the framework of culture.
Leadership and culture will drive the care process approach as an expression of its philosophy in caring for people. Once such an understanding, commitment and strategy are in place, transformation can be enabled by leading edge technology applications and hardware.
Focusing our efforts on a defined set of solutions that respond to the challenges and opportunities of the times, CSC brings value through improved patient care and bottom-line results.
Planning & Operations
Improving patient care was what drew us to this business 30 years ago, and it remains our motivating force. By applying a strategy to the management of information, you can leverage evidence-based medicine, clinical effectiveness, rules and guidelines and other tools with the intent of increasing quality, reducing cost and/or enhancing productivity.
We've focused on three issues that together hold significant threats to and opportunities for improving the quality of patient care.
- Clinical Systems for Patient Safety
We know hospitals inside and out and understand both the promises and practicalities of the clinical systems available today. Our experience tells us that hospitals must build careful process redesign into any clinical system implementation to gain the necessary results. - Staff Recruitment and Retention
To solve these challenges, we counsel hospital leaders to elevate employee care to top priority and to set aggressive targets and craft solutions to reduce turnover, recruit new staff, reduce vacancies, compress hiring cycles and improve employee satisfaction. - Physician Relationships
We understand how critical it is to align health system and physician interests around financial results. We've helped many systems resolve the knotty problems of alignment and create a solid foundation for more cost-effective service-line growth, expanded research agendas and improved educational leadership.
Technology Investments
Healthcare providers are expecting more from their information technology investments – from both clinical systems that support patient care provision and from information systems that support management and effective decision-making. Hospital system executives are making investments in clinical management systems, electronic medical records, enterprise resource planning systems, physician and patient Web portals and other IT projects. At the same time, job market conditions have made it difficult for healthsystems to attract and retain essential IT staff to develop and manage these systems.
CSC can help through several offerings:
- IT strategy
Providers need effective IT strategies to balance competing demands for limited capital dollars and to make IT dreams a reality. CSC provides strategic planning services that range from high-level visioning to more tactical project definitions and implementation details — driven by measurable clinical and business goals. - IT-enabled resource management
Healthcare providers are spending millions implementing new enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems to support financial, materials and human resources management. We view ERP implementation as a once-in-a-generation opportunity to fundamentally change how providers manage vital resources. Our clients can generally expect returns of five percent of net revenue or more through this type of system implementation. - Web-enabled customer relationships
Like never before, the Internet opens the way for hospitals to knit lasting relationships with their key constituencies: patients and their care givers; referring and practicing physicians; staff, and the community at large. We are pioneering development and implementation of Web-based portals and other tools for healthcare providers.
Outsourcing
IT outsourcing can help large providers focus on their core business, reduce operating costs and solve recruiting and retention problems. CSC is the only Tier 1 provider worldwide with deep healthcare expertise eRecords.
