This November, DynPort Vaccine Company LLC (DVC) employees filled, wrapped and shipped 88 shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child – a Samaritan's Purse project. The shoebox gifts will be delivered to children in war-torn and impoverished countries.
After five years of participating in Operation Christmas Child, this has become quite a popular program at DVC. Many generous employees provided toys, candy, toiletries and more to fill the boxes. Employees volunteered two hours each to cover awkwardly shaped shoeboxes with colorful, cheerful wrapping paper. Other employees then stuffed the boxes with as many goodies as possible.
DVC has participated in Operation Christmas Child since 2003, when it was started by long-time DVC staff member Dr. Don Fine. Since then, it has become one of many charitable events that DVC participates in annually.
Dr. Fine participated in Operation Christmas Child for many years before bringing it to DVC. “After visiting one of the programs’ processing centers in Charlotte, N.C., and seeing many businesses participate, I realized this was something DVC should be involved in,” said Dr. Fine.
For over 35 years, Samaritan's Purse has provided aid to the world's poor, sick, and suffering. Operation Christmas Child was created in 1993 by Samaritan’s Purse in hopes of bringing hope and joy to needy children around the world during the holiday season. Since its creation, Operation Christmas Child has allowed children who previously never had the chance, to understand what a holiday season is, and what it is all about. The national collection for the program is November 12 – 19.
