DVC Wins Family Friendly Business Award

DynPort Vaccine Company LLC (DVC) has been named one of Frederick County's top 10 family-friendly businesses. On January 14, DVC President and Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Robert V. House accepted this award at a recognition ceremony in Frederick.

DVC was also included in an article on the 2008 Top 10 Family Friendly Businesses in the January 2008 issue of Frederick Magazine. Award winners were selected by Frederick County Workforce Services, and were determined from a list of family-friendly benefits offered by employers.

"Our people are our primary resources, and from a business standpoint it makes sense to treat those resources as highly valued," said Dr. House.

DVC is a wholly owned subsidiary of CSC. This allows DVC to take advantage of many benefits typically only offered by large businesses while keeping a small business atmosphere. Some of the benefits DVC offers are flexible spending accounts, short-term disability (which can be used for maternity leave), long-term care insurance (can be used to insure self, parents, spouse, grandparents or in-laws including grandparents in-law), tuition reimbursement/educational assistance, scholarship program for children of employees, pension and 401(K) plans, a personal computer loan program, credit union membership, a corporate discount program and maternity parking.

"Without tuition reimbursement, I wouldn't be able to afford to take as many classes," said DVC employee Jennifer Preuit. "CSC is very quick about reimbursement and I've been using this benefit for three years now."

Several DVC employees take advantage of telecommuting and part-time work schedules, adding family-friendly flexibility.

The awards are sponsored by the Frederick County Office of Economic Development, the City of Frederick, Frederick County Workforce Services, and the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce.
