CSC LAUNCHES NEW ENERGY SAVING SOFTWARE ON DESKTOP COMPUTERS
Nyhedsartikel -- Marts 02, 2009
Climate Savers Computing Initiative Members CSC and 1E Team to Reduce PC Power Consumption
FALLS CHURCH, Va., March 2 -- CSC (NYSE: CSC) today announced that it has teamed with 1E to implement a power reduction strategy that will cut costs, conserve energy and reduce the carbon footprint of CSC's desktop infrastructure. CSC will use 1E's Night Watchman software to automatically and safely power down more than 25,000 desktop computers during non-work hours. The move is expected to save more than 25 million kilowatt hours of electricity a year and eliminate 23,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions - equivalent to removing 4,600 cars from the road.
"Using this tool will help us significantly reduce our energy use, which is good for business and good for the planet," said John A. Glowacki Jr., CSC's chief technology officer. "This is a wonderful collaboration between two members of the Climate Savers Computing Initiative to achieve our mutual goal of reducing power consumption to improve the environment."
"I'm delighted that CSC has selected 1E," said Sumir Karayi, chief executive officer of 1E. "Night Watchman is able to not only minimize carbon footprint, but also to make significant cost savings in day-to-day expenditures. It also installs quickly and efficiently and tightly integrates with existing systems management solutions."
Reducing energy consumption during non-peak hours is one way CSC is striving to minimize the environmental impact of its operations. The company intends to double its number of desktops using Night Watchman before the end of 2009 and is working to further reduce energy consumption in company buildings and data centers around the world. CSC also helps customers manage their own environmental impact through intelligent use of CSC products and services, such as server virtualization and managed print services.
