Lean/Six Sigma is a quality and process improvement methodology that integrates tools from both Lean and Six Sigma:

• Lean principles originated in manufacturing but are now being adopted in all areas of business. The Lean methodology focuses on speed by identifying and eliminating wasteful cycles, steps, processes, tools and materials.
• Six Sigma is a highly disciplined methodology that uses rigorous analysis and a data-driven approach to define, measure, analyze, improve and control processes. The goal is to boost performance, drive better solutions and drastically reduce or eliminate defects and problems to achieve near-perfect results — 3.4 defects per million, or 99.999 percent perfect, is the magical “Six Sigma” in the model.
