ISO/IEC 20000

Part of the ISO family, ISO/IEC 20000 is the first international standard to address IT service management. It offers a framework to guide organizations as they plan, manage, design and deliver quality projects and programs.

ISO/IEC 20000, which was formally adopted in December 2005, codifies the best practices contained in the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) and supersedes BS 15000, an earlier British standard that was widely used in service management. To be certified, organizations must prove to an independent auditor that their management processes and procedures are fully documented, repeatable and designed to foster quality.

CSC and ISO/IEC 20000

In keeping with our leadership in standards development, CSC has taken an early adoption approach to ISO/IEC 20000:2005. Numerous CSC employees have been trained as internal auditors, and our internal quality program for service delivery is being aligned with ISO/IEC 20000.

In addition, CSC’s operations in the UK, Australia and India, which have already been certified compliant with BS 15000, will be upgraded to the internationally accepted ISO/IEC 20000 certification once the process of merging these two standards has been completed. CSC was the first major IT services company in the UK and the fourth in the world to achieve this certification.

ISO/IEC 20000 is closely related to ITIL, which in turn cannot be implemented without adherence to other methodologies such as CMMI and Lean/Six Sigma. CSC integrates these major benchmarks and best-practice frameworks in our own approach to continual quality and process improvement. This assures our clients that every project we undertake has quality and process excellence built into it from start to finish.
