Business Continuity Planning and Testing
We establish a variety of plans including work area recovery (known in the Federal Sector as COOP); supply chain alternate supplier plans; alternate workforce mitigation plans, and other non-IT business continuity plans.
BUSINESS CONTINUITY PLANS:
Business Continuity Plans (BCPs) focus on how to resume business processes functioning after a disruption. This includes the people, underlying business processes and supporting technology.
Given the number and severity of risks today, from computer viruses and terrorist attacks, to pandemics and natural disasters, effective business continuity planning has never been more critical. Should a catastrophic incident disrupt your business, brand equity as well as revenue could be quickly impacted. Trading partners could sever ties and customers lost to your competitors. Many organizations have legal obligations and service level agreements which if broken, could lead to fines or financial penalties.
You want to be assured that your BCPs will work, but where does one start? For over 30 years CSC has helped some of the world’s largest financial institutions and government agencies design and implement, cost-effective BCPs.
INTEGRATION OF BUSINESS RECOVERY AND IT DISASTER PLANS
Business Unit recovery plans must work in conjunction with technical Disaster Recovery plans in order to provide assurances of resiliency and survivability. Careful plan review and reliance back to the Business Impact Analysis are employed to ensure the ability of the various and distinct recovery plans to work together towards the same objective.
Manual processes, relocation plans, temporary work environments and alternate processing and transportation plans need to function with IT plans so that the power and efficiencies of the IT environment are available to business units to help them recover and rebuild operation after a catastrophic disruption.
PLAN TESTING AND MAINTENANCE
Many organizations struggle to maintain their BCPs. This is primarily because the core skill of the organization is not business continuity. Plans are often developed as a once-off project, and then neglected to quickly become out dated and ineffective.
Several categories of BCP testing are available.
- Plan walk through–paper exercise
- Simulation exercise–scenario based
- Activity test–relocate recovery teams to a recovery site
CSC, in conjunction with strategic business partners is well-positioned to build a maintenance program suited specifically to your organization. Whether this is a simple plan walk-through exercise, or a complex maintenance schedule that is continuously rolled out over the course of a year, CSC Business Continuity consultants are experienced to meet your requirements.
