White Paper: Cyber Security for Utilities

The infrastructure for Utilities has been in place for many decades and customers have come to expect that power, water and gas will be available at the flip of a switch or turn of a knob. In most instances, this infrastructure has changed very little, with the focus primarily being on physical security. Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) computer control systems, has introduced a wave of new technology advances and potential risks into a customarily closed world.

While the intent is to provide better customer service and enhanced control and management of thousands of remote management systems, it has also introduced a new level of threats that can potentially circumvent physical security from anywhere in the world.
