Partnerships That Count, Results That Matter
A commitment to building partnerships based on trust and transformational results has been a signature CSC value for more than 50 years. For our 2,500 clients in over 70 countries across the globe, we strive to be a true partner in creating a more effective enterprise — and a trusted ally in building a better world. When organizations with a history of collaboration and mutual success come together, there are no limits to how much we can accomplish for our stakeholders and the communities we share.
By modernizing and integrating its IT infrastructure, we have helped the American Red Cross better respond to disasters, manage blood supply and connect with stakeholders. As part of this multifaceted partnership, we also collaborate on a blood drive campaign each year at CSC offices worldwide. Our 2010 “GiveBlood. GiveLife” program exceeded our ambitious 10,000-unit goal, with11,134 units donated.
Thousands of us joined the effort, giving blood at more than 100 drives in 26 countries. Estimates showed that donations from the program helped save the lives of more than 230,000 patients. By challenging our global community to donate 10,000 units every year, we replenish the healthcare resources of our local communities while supporting the critical work of the American Red Cross in many regions.
The Power of Two
Similar Corporate Responsibility Values Result in Joint Green and Social Initiatives
Since 2004, CSC provides various services to Zurich Financial Services in the area of IT Outsourcing. It is important to Zurich that its sourcing providers share similar ethical, environmental and social values. As a result, several joint initiatives in this area have evolved. These include:
- To improve children’s education near our Zurich delivery locations in India, CSC has funded a new library for the NTR Model School in Hyderabad. The school fosters academic, social and life skills and is dedicated to educating disadvantaged children.
- In another region, our companies joined forces for a Fundraising Walk through Bonn’s scenic Rheinaue Park. The profits from entry fees went towards the support of two charities: CARE Germany, which combats poverty and hunger, and the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
As both companies’ Corporate Responsibility strategies are aligned, both companies share the same values and encourage their employees to take an active role in preparing for the challenges of the global environment as well as to become active stakeholders in the communities around them.
Working for a Healthier Planet
U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)
This year we continued to design a high-performance computing system to meet NOAA’s research requirements for weather and climate forecast modeling. This advanced system will help the agency to research and develop models that examine conditions of the ocean and atmosphere, monitor climate and improve daily weather forecasts, increasing the agency’s ability to provide the United States with reliable information about our changing environment.
Innovating, from the Desktop to the Cloud
UK National Health Service; Royal Mail Group
The National Outsourcing Association (NOA) Best Practice in Outsourcing Awards honor leading developments, contracts and innovation in outsourcing. In 2010, our desktop virtualization project to help the UK Department of Health meet challenging efficiency and green targets was named Public Sector Outsourcing Project of the Year. Our delivery of cloud-based office services to 28,000 Royal Mail Group employees took the award for Innovation in Outsourcing. No other organization received two such honors.
Delivering Seamless Service Despite Natural Disaster
Rio Tinto
CSC and Rio Tinto, a world leader in finding, mining and processing mineral resources, developed partnering principles to promote a productive working relationship. Recently, this proven system helped in unexpected ways during some of the worst floods that Queensland, Australia, has experienced in nearly 40 years. As Brisbane’s unprecedented flood water levels threatened Rio Tinto offices and high tide approached, we worked through the night to ensure backup data storage was in place and to transfer the company’s email servers to Sydney. Our site support staff from Perth flew to Brisbane to supplement our local team, many of whom were also working to save their own homes from the flood waters.
While both CSC and Rio Tinto’s Brisbane offices were flooded, we continued to deliver services remotely from home and rented premises. Within a short period of time, Rio Tinto staff members were back in their offices and at full working capacity, with our staff on hand to support them.
Safeguarding Water Security
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
By serving our clients, we often serve the needs of our communities as well. Our work with the EPA to secure the nation’s water and wastewater infrastructure demonstrates this. Through the delivery of scientific, engineering and emergency management expertise, we helped the agency protect water resources from both natural hazards and intentional attacks.
Uniting for Community Outreach
United Launch Alliance (ULA)
Our team provides ULA — a joint venture of Boeing and Lockheed Martin — with IT services that help the organization efficiently build and launch spacecraft. CSC employees also participate side by side with our ULA counterparts in community outreach efforts in the Denver, Colorado, area. From an American Heart Association Heart Walk, to organizational support for Wheelchair Olympics events, to an Operation Santa Claus gift drive for underprivileged children, our collaboration with ULA extends beyond the aerospace engineering innovations we also create together.
Turning a Recycling Program into a New Customer Offering
Orange Group
We helped French telecommunications company Orange Group transform its process for collecting old mobile phones into a revenue-generating business that is also environmentally friendly. To help Orange achieve its goal of becoming a recycling pioneer on a massive scale, we created and delivered a ready-to-use toolkit for simultaneous implementation of the Eco Orange program in eight target countries. We were recognized for the program’s success with the 2011 European Outsourcing Association Award for Corporate Social Responsibility.
Alliances at the Leading Edge
Industry Partner
World Economic Forum
As an IT Industry Partner to the World Economic Forum, we have actively collaborated with business, political and academic leaders to promote global corporate citizenship and share technology insights. Along with CSC Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Mike Laphen’s participation in a Technology for Society panel on cloud computing, CSC involvement has included Global Vice President of Cloud Computing Siki Giunta’s support of a cloud project, and Director of Cybersecurity Mark Rasch’s participation in a working group on risk and responsibility in today’s hyperconnected world.
Solution Innovation Partner of the Year
Cisco Systems
We have collaborated with Cisco Systems for more than a decade on the delivery of integrated and flexible solutions that help organizations achieve value from IT investments. In recognition of our performance and expertise as a channel partner, we won a 2011 Solution Innovation Partner of the Year Award from this high-tech innovator.
Promises Kept
Honoring our commitments and delivering on our promises are absolutely critical to the continuing success of CSC. In every collaboration we undertake, we seek to create the most successful partnership imaginable, from delivering business results that generate value to capturing opportunities that further environmental sustainability and community development.
