THE HUMAN IMPRINT

Collaborating with colleagues from across the globe to do great things. That’s the human touch. Inviting diverse points of view and the unexpected into the mix. That’s the human element. Valuing people, their communities and their environment, and understanding what makes them stronger. That’s the human difference. Transforming an organization, a neighborhood or the world for the better, with focus and heart that make an indelible impression. That’s the human imprint.

Core Commitments
Integral to our business and company growth, corporate responsibility (CR) rests on sustainable practices and strategies that enable our employees to build long-term relationships with our clients. In addition, while CR is not solely about our philanthropic commitments, the ways in which we sustain and grow the communities in which we do business directly affect who we are as a company. That is why we have updated our CR framework to show more effectively the increased integration of our triple bottom line — people, planet and profits.

During the past year, we again focused on commitments to our employees, client trust and partner collaboration, environmental sustainability, community engagement and ethical governance. But we also tied this focus more clearly to our business objectives, as we continued to seamlessly integrate CR into our culture and our business.

But we also tied this focus more clearly to our business objectives, as we continued to seamlessly integrate CR into our culture and our business.

Highlights
A few highlights from the year:

  • Community. An initial expansion of CSC Gives Back, our local community philanthropy effort, and evaluation of philanthropic and employee matching programs to be launched in FY13. We aim to strategically tie our giving to our employee and community engagement efforts.
  • Employees. Expansion of our Employee Resource Groups and development of a CR peer-to-peer award, to be launched in FY12. We view our employees as fundamental to all we do.
  • Clients. The opening of new lines of communication with our clients through dialogue with their sustainability and CR officers, to pursue avenues of mutual collaboration and engagement. We see CR-to-CR dialogue with our client counterparts as fundamental to our overall client relationships.
  • Environment. A significant expansion of our greenhouse gas reporting and a more global Carbon Disclosure Project submission. We know that if we measure our emissions, we will make progress in reducing them.
  • Governance, Measurement and Reporting. An initial alignment of our measurement efforts with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). We see the GRI as foundational to how we govern CR and measure and report on our progress.

CSC's CR FrameworkRecognitions
As a result of this progress, we received a series of awards and recognitions for our CR efforts this year, including:

  • Business in the Community Awards.  Business in the Community (BITC) is an international network of responsible businesses committed to a sustainable future for people and the planet. As a BITC member, CSC UK is committed to advancing responsible business practices that benefit society. BITC recognized our CR achievements by presenting us with a Silver performance band, a notable step up from our Bronze performance last year.
  • FTSE4Good Index Series. We were recognized for a second consecutive year by the FTSE4Good Index Series, which honors companies for their CR standards. We received high rankings in the area of environmental management, the development of strategies to allocate and conserve resources.
  • FORTUNE Magazine’s “World’s Most Admired Companies.” CSC again ranked in the Top 5 among the world’s leading IT service providers in FORTUNE magazine’s list of the World’s Most Admired Companies. According to FORTUNE, this recognition is “the definitive report card on corporate reputation,” as judged by thousands of executives, directors, financial analysts and ratings companies based on nine corporate attributes, from people management to financial soundness. Our demonstrated strengths in the way we do business included our ability to compete on a global scale, our social responsibility initiatives and the quality of our products and services, as well as the outstanding performance of our employees worldwide.

Ingenuity. Passion. Purpose.
Through all of this progress, one fundamental truth stands out: Our employees make the company and our CR efforts successful. With their ingenuity, passion and strong sense of purpose, the people of CSC forge the human imprint — for our clients and company, our communities and environment — that creates our long-term success.
