A Message From Mike Lawrie

We began 2012 on a particularly challenging note for our company. Today, we are managing ourselves through a difficult economy and engaging fully in a dramatic turnaround that will ensure our sustainability. Throughout, however, corporate responsibility (CR) has remained an important component of success and strength for our company as we continue to integrate sustainable practices and behavior into our global operations. CSC’s vitality is inextricably connected to the employees, communities and environments in which we operate, and committing to the key components of CR is not only responsible but critical for sustainable business practices.
In today’s business climate, the definition of “success” is becoming more complex. It is simply not enough for a company to be focused solely on near-term financial results. With the increasing growth of the global economy, our stakeholders want to ensure that CSC has broadened our scope of success to demonstrate that we are responsible corporate citizens and can also sustain long-term financial success. Greater transparency in reporting, heightened sustainability and rejuvenated efforts in employee and community engagement have become invaluable assets to maintain client satisfaction and position us as a global IT business leader. We continue to demonstrate our commitments to societies across the globe and to provide resources for our 96,000 employees in 90 countries to learn, grow and thrive, with opportunities for career advancement and giving back to the greater community.
We are proud to note our continued progress on both our environmental and social commitments. One area of particular focus is our successful increase in employee engagement programs such as the CSC Global Get Fit Challenge. This program mobilized employees around the world to increase their daily physical activity, resulting in the American Heart Association recognizing us as a Gold Level Fit-Friendly Company. On a worldwide community level, CSC Gives Back worked with ChildFund International to support and connect with impoverished children in several regions throughout the world, and our NPower Community Corps program allowed employees to connect their IT skills to nonprofit organizations needing help with IT projects. Our community efforts have had a positive impact on employee morale and effectiveness, and we are proud when our employees give their time and efforts to help others. Being responsible corporate citizens connects our own employees, our greater communities and our valued clients and shareholders, and improves all of our relationships.
With this fourth annual publication of the CSC Corporate Responsibility Report, we are proud to share with you our latest progress as we strive for greater sustainability and CR leadership. As we continue to grow in corporate responsibility, we will achieve a new caliber of success in our transforming industry.
