Community
Worldwide, CSC invests in local communities, volunteering our time and talent. From the United States to the UK, from Australia to India, we commit resources to local charities and organizations. Through philanthropy, community engagement and pro bono work, CSC is proud to make a difference globally in the communities we live and work in.
CSC is commited to enacting positive change through programs to expand education, improve environmental health, promote childwelfare and assist persons with disabilities and wounded warriors. We believe that our dedication to small, meaningful changes has the power to radiate far and wide.
Here are several key highlights of our community engagement in the past year:
Shaping Youth Education Worldwide
We are proud to be a Gold Sponsor of STEMconnector, an organization that profiles and connects federal, national, state and local organizations that promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education for youth. STEMconnector works to increase collaboration, communication and sustainable education practices to strengthen STEM learning nationwide. CSC is also contributing to the 2012 U.S. News STEM Solutions Conference, to discuss how to improve information across supply, demand, communications and policy.
Our work with the Prince's Trust, a leading UK charity, has also provided exciting opportunities for education in the community. The Prince's Trust offers an array of training, mentoring and financial programs for disadvantaged youth. In 2011, CSC employees raised nearly $250,000 to enable these critical efforts. CSC is a Patron supporter of the organization’s Technology Leadership Group, which helped to provides CSCers across the UK many opportunities to get involved with awareness-building initiatives.
Racing to Make a Difference
For the fourth consecutive year in 2011, CSC supported Australian charity Tour de Cure as an official Corporate Team Partner. The charity organizes an annual cycling race that raises funds in support of cancer research and treatmnet. In addition to our corporate sponsorship, 16 CSCers joined with our clients to make the demanding 850-mile, 10-day cycling trek through Australia to fundraise for this important cause.
Supporting our Heroes: Wounded Warriors and their Families
We partnered with CharityWorks to raise $450,000 to fund construction for the largest-ever Fisher Houses for veterans' families at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Washington, D.C., which provides a home away from home for American soldiers' loved ones as they are receiving treatment for injuries. Supporting soldiers resonates with CSC worldwide; our UK team chose the UK Help for Heroes (H4H) as its 2011 Charity of the Year, which we assisted through the creation of a rehabilitiation and retraining center, as well as through widespread fundraising efforts.
Prioritizing Child Welfare Worldwide
As part of our Global CSC Gives Back Challenge, employees from around the world created virtual teams to fundraise and provide support for impoverished children through ChildFund International. Our ongoing support for communities in Mississippi, India and Kenya have allowed CSCers to improve education and health opportunities for children and their families.
