Employees
We treat our employees well, respect their rights and provide a safe workplace that minimises the risk of accidents. We value diversity and provide an environment that encourages the sharing of ideas and perspectives and promotes the highest standards of ethical and business conduct. The CSC CLEAR Values and CSC Code of Ethics and Standard of Conduct (PDF) are well established throughout the organisation, and are reinforced by the annual Ethics Awareness briefing, which is a required course of all employees. We continue to recognise, encourage and inspire diversity of experience, interest and personal development.
We recognise that CSC’s accomplishments are the work of the people who comprise CSC. We encourage initiative, recognise individual contribution, treat each person with respect and fairness and afford ample opportunity for professional growth. In turn, we require of our people high standards of professionalism and technical competence.
We aim to support and encourage employees, who are absent from work due to illness or some other reason, to return to work in a timely manner and to help them maintain their attendance by ongoing monitoring of their well being. Through encouraging high standards of attendance, this will also help serve CSC‟s customers by managers having greater reliability in their staffing arrangements.
Our UK Family Support Policy provides support and assistance to employees experiencing change, difficulty, or crisis in their family, wherever possible. Support is provided through such avenues as the Employee Assistance Programme, Special Leave, Maternity Leave, Paternity Leave, Parental Leave,Adoption Leave and Flexible Working Arrangements.
In addition, our flexible benefits scheme allows employees to set up a Childcare Account which forms part of a family friendly initiative aiming to save money on childcare costs through savings on tax and NI.
We value and encourage openness and honesty in our employees, at every level in the organisation. We promote regular, meaningful employee communication and actively seek employees’ views and suggestions.
Learning and Development
We provide a UK Mentoring Programme to connect those individuals interested in mentoring others with those requiring a mentor. We hold a mentor biography database for all mentors and detailed and comprehensive training and resources to enable mentors and mentees to get the most out of the programme. For 2012, we currently have over 100 mentors actively participating in the programme.
Health and Safety
We recognise the importance of providing a safe working environment for all our staff and others who may be affected by our activities. We have a pro-active Safety Management Programme, supported by all levels of management, safety officers, safety champions and the Group H&S Team. All of our activities have been assessed to identify significant hazards, which are then controlled and managed. Our Safety Programme has been externally verified and zero.approved by Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance to the OHSAS 18001 specification. Our aim is to reduce accidents to Read our Health, Safety & Environment Management manual.
OHSAS18001 Certification
CSC’s UK Occupational Health & Safety Management System has been approved by Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance to the OHSAS 18001 specification (see certificate PDF). The specification was released by the British Standards Institute in 1999, in response to strong worldwide demand for a generalised, comprehensive outline for managing occupational health & safety issues. Its aim is to promote safe work practices and employee well-being.
What does OHSAS 18001 mean to us?
It shows employees, customers, prospects, suppliers and shareholders that we ensure the proper and effective management of worker health & safety. It demonstrates to regulatory bodies that we are serious in our commitment to health & safety issues.
UK Diversity
Our Global Diversity Council (GDC) was set up to create a long-term program to enhance our company's cultural inclusiveness. Each year, the role of Diversity Champion is taken up by a different member of the UK Operations Board.
CSC’s Equal Opportunities Policy ensures that decisions concerning all aspects of employment, recruitment, reward mechanisms, career progression and training are made exclusively on the basis of merit and the requirements of the role, and that no person is treated less favourably because of age, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, race, nationality, ethnic origin, disability, religious beliefs, or membership or non membership of a trade union. CSC has an Equal Opportunities Policy and a Diversity Policy.
Employee Engagement
Our investment in staff is fundamental to a successful workplace and we encourage feedback. The UK Employee Forum (UKEF) is CSC's chosen forum for informing and consulting with the UK workforce as a whole. This Forum enables us to properly inform and involve our employees in decision making and problem solving increasing collaboration, creativity and innovation through dialogue and exchange of views.
Through a variety of learning options, we can provide you with further opportunities to engage with CSC at an organisational level – either through networking with like-minded colleagues at training events, being part of a coaching or mentoring relationship or networking and communicating with senior staff at a variety of different events.
