CSC Lithuania Teams Up with Universities, Foster Homes and Schools
Partnering with Save the Children Lithuania
CSC Baltic has partnered with Save the Children Lithuania for the past 6 years, supporting projects, initiatives and organizations such as the Pabradė Children’s Home.
Children from Foster Homes Taught Business Basics
CSC has established close cooperation with children’s homes, organizing career mentorships to benefit future generations of IT specialists. During the 6-month project implemented by Save the Children Lithuania and CSC Baltic, volunteer IT professionals organize lessons for 33 pupils aged 14 – 18 from four foster homes on effective communication, public speaking and other business basics, and advise them on creative thinking, so they can develop their own entrepreneurship skills and increase their social inclusion.
Entrepreneurship development lessons represent one of CSC Baltic’s corporate responsibility projects, reflecting CSC’s strategy of competence development initiatives and professional improvement of young people.
CSC Charitable Foundation
In summer 2014, CSC Baltic, together with the CSC Charitable Foundation, CSC Baltic employees’ Christmas donation, and help from Save the Children Lithuania, was able to brighten up the lives of children from the Pabradė Children’s Home.
Every year kids choose a spot to visit, and CSC Lithuania organizes a summer excursion for them. This year CSC organized a trip for Pabradė children to the adventure park Tarzanija. Next year’s destination: the Dolphinarium.
Teaming Up with Universities
CSC Baltic actively engages with students and has collaborated with universities on several projects. These initiatives help grow and motivate students as well as CSC Baltic employees, as they present a great opportunity to meet talented students and understand their perspectives.
As an example, CSC Baltic has actively participated at annual career days organized by major universities in Lithuania. CSC Baltic also worked with three Lithuanian universities to organize CSC Baltic Graduates Awards for bachelor’s and master’s degree recipients in spring 2014. Overall, 19 students from Vilnius University, Kaunas University of Technology, and Vilnius Gediminas Technical University participated in the contest, and eight of them were awarded Best Final Thesis (four bachelor’s and four master’s degree recipients). A team of 20 CSC Baltic employees organized the event and assessed the final theses. This initiative helped ambitious students get recognized beyond their campus borders. Finally, CSC Baltic has launched “CSC Lounge” areas at three universities, where students can concentrate and prepare for lectures, socialize, prepare group assignments, or just relax.
Cooperating with Education Institutions
CSC Baltic continues its engagement with schools and the “Kam to reikia?!” organization, encouraging live theory lessons at secondary schools led by professionals of different fields. Besides lessons at various schools during Career Week and other events, four schools from smaller Lithuanian towns were selected to work with CSC on the Schools Ambassadors program, with the goal of encouraging students to study mathematics, physics and informatics.
Creating Communities for Others
PM Sunday School Educates and Inspires Future Project Managers
CSC Baltic project managers have started the Project Management Sunday School initiative, a free course for those looking to develop their project management and leadership skills.
The goal of this project is to create a teaching initiative that enables the sharing of experience, knowledge and skills with various professionals, students, partners and CSC Baltic employees. During biweekly sessions, students are taught project management methods, virtual communication and leadership.
This is an amazing opportunity to expand our talent pool and find motivated individuals. As a result, we are kicking off a third iteration in spring 2015.
Following from the success of the School project, CSC Baltic is organizing a Teachers’ Academy — a learning and development initiative designed to support teachers from various Lithuania universities seeking to develop additional skills and capabilities in project management. The course will provide a basic set of competencies in project management.
More efforts, more success!
Christmas Spirit: Supporting Kids from Children’s Home and Day Center
Sixty-six kids from the Pabradė Children’s Home and the Naujoji Vilnia Day Care Center wrote down their wishes during the Christmas holidays. Most of the wishes were activities, written on cards that decorated the CSC Baltic Christmas tree. Employees of our team in Lithuania chose gift cards with these wishes to fulfill them. To learn how the kids spent their day and what they chose, check out our CSC Baltic page on Facebook.
Every year in June, in honor of World Blood Donor Day, CSC Baltic employees are invited to donate blood to help those in need. Sharing is caring!
Pink Ribbon for Ladies: Breast Cancer Awareness
This year, for the annual Pink Ribbon event, the CSC Baltic team was surprised with pink honey cakes, and all day women were invited to receive health checkups and consult with doctors from the Vilnius Oncology Institute. CSC Baltic encourages women and their families to pay attention to this important initiative.
Movember for Gentlemen: Prostate Cancer Awareness
In November, the men of CSC Baltic were encouraged to participate in the “Mr. Beard” contest by growing their beards for the entire month. The purpose of “Movember” is to raise awareness about prostate cancer and show solidarity for men with the disease.
