Annual Sustainability & Compliance Survey Results: Is the Chemical Industry Sustainable?

For the second year, CW has teamed up with consulting firm CSC (Falls Church, VA) to survey executives on sustainability and regulatory challenges. The survey received over 200 responses, and interviewed 15 top executives.

Key findings related to greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting, product stewardship, the EU’s Registration, Authorisation and Evaluation of Chemicals (Reach) law and the U.S. Chemical Facility Antiterrorism Standards (CFATS), indicate that corporate leaders are pursuing a broad sustainability and security agenda. Sustainability performance management programs are being implemented at the corporate and plant levels to better understand how GHG emissions and water are being utilized.

However, some challenges remain. While most companies meet their product stewardship goals, often times those goals are not fully integrated into the product development process. More firms intend to launch company-wide GHG reporting, but that number is still far less than half.
