CSC Delivers UK NHS National Program for IT
|
The United Kingdom's National Health Service (NHS) National Program for IT was born out of a vision to connect over 30,000 GPs in England to almost 300 hospitals and give patients access to their personal health and care information. CSC, through the CSC Alliance, is responsible for delivery of this Program across the North, Midlands and East of England (NME). Since the inception of the Program, much has been achieved that CSC and Connecting for Health program can be proud of. |

For example, more than 50,000 NHS staff in the North West and West Midlands regions alone are using the systems and associated new ways of working as delivered as part of the National Program for IT.
The plan to replace all X-ray film with enhanced and securely stored digital images is near completion both across the NME region and nationally. These systems (known as Picture Archiving and Communication Systems or PACS) have provided radiologists with clearer images which are more readily available for them to access and store, and provide enhanced images enabling more accurate and timely diagnoses.
Great strides have also been made across the North East and East of England in providing GP's with more efficient and secure systems that help manage busy surgeries and ensure optimal use of their time and skills in delivering patient care. And now clinical systems in hospitals are beginning to be rolled out at scale, having a very direct impact on the quality of care.
In the download file you will see some examples, drawn from across the regions for which CSC is responsible, that provide a detailed view of the real life benefits which are being delivered today. These span a broad spectrum of care settings, from GP surgeries and community care through to the largest and most complex acute hospitals, and all reflect improvements achieved as a direct result of the NHS National Program for IT.
As we continue along this journey, the benefits will only accelerate, contributing to an efficient, safe and effective health service, and putting the NHS where it should rightly be, at the forefront of excellence in global health care.
