CSC Provides ILS Services as part of Hovercraft Acquisition Program

The Canadian Coast Guard has recently taken delivery of an AP1-88 / 400 hovercraft built by Griffon Hoverwork in the U.K.   Named Mamilossa--an Abenaki native word meaning "he who goes from water to land" -- the new, 28.5-metre machine (the largest ever to be exported from Britain) is now the flagship of a fleet of Coast Guard hovercraft stationed on the Atlantic and Pacific coasts.

The new hovercraft will be used as a tender for the placement, maintenance and removal of buoys and provide support to the construction and maintenance of navigational aids. The air cushion vehicle will also be used to break up harbour ice, clear outlets along the St. Lawrence River in spring to prevent flooding as well as providing support to search and rescue missions and security operations.

As part of the acquisition program, CSC has been selected by Griffon Hoverwork to develop a maintenance program and provide related documentation to support the hovercraft while in Coast Guard service.  The maintenance program is to include:

·                     The development of maintenance plans for each major system;

·                     The preparation of an associated Technical Data List;

·                     the development of Task Sheets to define each Preventive Maintenance (PM) task;

·                     rationalization of the materials, special tools, test equipment, and spare parts needed to support the PM tasks;

·                     a recommended spare parts list to support repair by replacement maintenance activities;

·                     the development of PM Task Lists and Charts; and

·                     the delivery of maintenance program data for input into the Coast Guard Maintenance Management Information System (MIMS).
