FALLS CHURCH, Va., Oct. 13 -- CSC (NYSE: CSC) today announced a new initiative to fully fund a computer learning center in collaboration with the Computer Learning Centers Partnership (CLCP) program and the Fairfax County Department of Community and Recreation Services (CRS) in Fairfax County, VA. CSC will provide support to the Kingsley Commons Computer Learning Center over a three-year period. The center is located less than one-mile from CSC's corporate headquarters.
The partnership was convened by the Office of Public Partnerships (OP3), a county office created to identify and develop partnership opportunities to address community needs and county priorities.
A special ceremony will take place on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at 5:30 p.m. in the Kingsley Commons Computer Learning Center, 3037B Monticello Drive, Falls Church, Virginia to announce this new partnership, and to present the first installment check for the support of the center.
The CLCP is an award-winning program which uses emerging technology to support the growth of communities, and provides participants with access to high tech resources. The Kingsley Center is one of 12 CLCP programs operated by the Fairfax County Department of Community Recreation Services. The purpose of the Kingsley Commons program is to create an environment that opens a doorway for the residents of Kingsley Commons to extraordinary levels of achievement in school and unprecedented access to higher achievement at school.
"CSC believes in developing and nurturing talent around the world, and we are happy to support the Kingsley Commons Computer Learning Center," says Susan Pullin, vice president of corporate responsibility and analyst relations. "We believe it is our corporate responsibility to make a sustainable impact on the economic well-being of individuals, their families and the communities they live in."
In addition to the financial contributions, CSC professionals will be lending their time and talent through a mentorship program at the center. By working with CSC mentors, participants of the Kingsley Commons' CLCP will receive direct, positive interactions with accomplished professionals in the field of science, engineering, and technology. The assets developed in these interactions will insure that Kingsley Commons' CLCP participants are prepared to both participate in and define the smarter world emerging around them.
