Doing Business Across Borders
With the new global economy spawned by the Internet, merchants are no longer limited to doing business within their country’s borders. A new feature of CSC’s CAMS II™ Card & Merchant System software gives merchants the power to settle transactions of various currencies in their preferred currency.
Greater Convenience, Additional Revenue
CSC is working with Barclaycard, one of Europe’s largest acquirers and processors of plastic card transactions, to support the company’s aggressive expansion plans. Barclaycard already serves more than 230,000 merchant locations across the United Kingdom, processing more than 1.4 billion transactions annually. CAMS II’s new capabilities allow Barclaycard’s merchants to accept card payments from consumers in multiple currencies, such as the euro, British pound or U.S. dollar, while settling those transactions with Barclaycard in their preferred currency.
Greater convenience for merchants and consumers isn’t the only benefit. In addition to creating expanded sales opportunities, CAMS II’s multi-currency feature is generating additional fee revenue for Barclaycard.
Flexible Architecture for Streamlined Processes
CAMS II is an end-to-end cards management solution that supports virtually every form of card and electronic-oriented transaction. Its flexible, dynamic architecture also gives card issuers, acquirers and processors the ability to efficiently manage a variety of cards products, ranging from proprietary access cards to full-function branded cards. Barclaycard used the CSC e4SM enterprise integration architecture to implement CAMS II. CSC e4 unifies application software components, new business process management (BPM) systems and workflow tools within a single logical environment.
“As part of Barclaycard’s aggressive international expansion, we are offering our multinational merchants more flexible, multi-currency capabilities for cards processing,” said Colin Hudson, head of change management, Barclays Merchant Services. “Combined with CSC’s CAMS II software, CSC e4 helped us streamline our business processes, eliminate manual re-keying and improve data quality and consistency.”
Faster Speed to Market
Barclaycard has joined a growing list of issuers, acquirers and processors in Europe, South Africa, Asia and the United States that have licensed the software. Deutsche Bank, a leading Visa card issuer, licensed CAMS II in the late 1990s to grow its credit card portfolio in Germany and Italy using co-branded Visa cards and loyalty/rewards programs. Today, Deutsche Bank is well-positioned to issue innovative new card products and process cards for banks and other third parties. A consortium of three European financial services firms also uses CAMS II to process 21 million cards and up to 1 billion transactions annually.
