INPEX is an evolving organisation that maintains a well-balanced portfolio of exploration and production assets. This means that processes are constantly changing as the focus for each project moves from discovery to design through development and into operations.
The Challenge
The information necessary to make the transition from one stage to the next and the ultimate final investment decision is complex and demands rigorous controls over budgets.
The Solution
Initially, INPEX sought CSC’s help to work alongside SAP to develop a prototype to prove the concept worked. After a satisfactory result, CSC and INPEX designed and planned the project to develop and implement a suitable BPC for deployment to the relevant INPEX business users in time for the budgeting cycle.
The Results
Good project management, strong communications (even with some team members working remotely) and a rigorous delivery system were essential elements in working to the tight deadline. A close fit between INPEX’s Prince2/PIMBOC based process, CSC’s Catalyst methodology and SAP’s project management protocol was also a contributing factor.
The project went smoothly, meeting all timelines and after 18 weeks of development including integration testing, user acceptance testing, ‘train the trainer’ workshops and implementation - the first phase went live on July 5th 2010.
