CSC receives ISO/IEC 20000 certification for IT service management

First major Australian outsourcing organisation to achieve certification status.

Sydney, Australia, 31 August 2007 – Computer Sciences Corporation (NYSE: CSC) is the first major information technology (IT) outsourcing organisation in Australia to achieve the global ISO/IEC 20000-1: 2005 certification.

The ISO/IEC 20000 standard defines requirements for an IT Service Management system and recognises that an organisation follows necessary processes to effectively deliver IT services. In addition, the standard is aligned with the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL), the global de facto standard for IT Service Management.

ISO/IEC 20000 certification is recognised as particularly relevant to organisations that provide managed services and outsourced IT services. The certification permits managed services organisations to assure clients that their IT environments will be well managed and they will receive high quality IT services.

“Organisations are becoming increasingly dependent on technology systems in order to meet their business objectives, and this has led to an increased demand for high quality IT services,” says Mike Shove, managing director of CSC in Australia. “The ISO/IEC 20000-1 certification gives CSC’s clients the assurance of a firmly entrenched service culture within our organisation, and that CSC has certified service delivery methodologies in place to successfully meet their business requirements.”

Shove adds that the ISO/IEC 20000 standard incorporates high levels of business integrity and security, and that it promotes a culture of continual quality improvement in IT Service Management. “The ISO/IEC 20000 certification provides a yardstick for measuring and validating CSC’s success in implementing best practices as defined by ITIL,” he says. “Because CSC has a systematic and professional approach to IT service management, we are able to deliver tangible results to our clients.”

In 2006, CSC took the lead by becoming the first major IT service provider in Australia to achieve the AS 8018.1-2004 certification. The recent ISO/IEC 20000-1:2005 certification is in line with CSC’s drive to achieve a worldwide service delivery standard across its global office network. This certification is particularly significant given CSC Australia’s multinational client base.
