New England writes the script for true information exchange

	::	Massachusetts has a heritage of medical innovation that includes development of electronic health records (EHR) systems and introduction of universal healthcare coverage. Its New England Healthcare Electronic Data Interchange Network (NEHEN) is recognised as one of the USA’s most successful and sustainable health information exchanges (PDF 384 KB). It has been exchanging data between health plans and providers since 1998.With healthcare reform a top priority for the Obama administration, Massachusetts has been mentioned as a potential model for national efforts.
