Beat the Odds - Culture

Beat the Odds Culture

Unless you’re planning to carry the company through the recession single-handedly, you’ll want to make it as easy as possible for everyone in the organisation to be as efficient, engaged and productive as possible. Chances are that the recession will require some unpopular changes. Even more so than usual, then, you’ll need to keep communication flowing, explain why changes are necessary, and make it very clear that you value your hard-working employees. This is not primarily a technological challenge, but the prevalence of IT in the workplace means that the way you deliver IT services can send a clear message about how much you value your staff.

What CSC is doing

CSC has developed a Capable Change Leaders (CCL) program, the program’s goal is to develop highly skilled leaders who have a passion for fostering enthusiasm and collaboration needed to lead and sustain change.

The program has been instrumental in driving cultural change in Australia, recent culture and employee surveys reported that overall CCL participants have a stronger customer focus, include accelerated project transitions perceive a stronger link between their work and the strategy and are more likely to recommend CSC as a good employer to others. Significantly in 7 years of measuring culture we experienced an improvement shift attributed to CCL.

Deliver IT that ‘just works’

A self-help-self-heal IT support portal lets staff solve many of their IT-related problems themselves, without having to contact IT support or wait for a deskside visit. This can be achieved quickly and with only a modest investment, but can drastically cut IT support costs without compromising user satisfaction.

With a budget of $22 billion, and a centralised financial system for hundreds of locations across the country, the Department of Defence has one of the largest and most complex SAP environments in Australia. When they needed to upgrade to a new SAP release, CSC were able to help manage the integration and complexity associated with managing 200 sites and over 5000 users. Help users feel at home

At home, people use wikis, blogs, instant messaging and online communities to find and share information and expertise. Many organisations want to use these tools in an enterprise context, but find it challenging to deploy them securely and effectively. CSC’s Collaborative Enterprise services help clients to leverage these and other emerging collaboration technologies quickly and successfully, improving productivity and the speed and quality of decision making.

Break the link between work and location

For Oil exploration, time is money. CSC helped Origin energy quickly install a reliable communications system in one of the harshest offshore oil and gas regions in the world to deliver critical information from the oil rig to head office.CSC installed a satellite communications system designed to cope with winds up to 60 knots, days of constant rain and rough seas.
