CSC Awarded Information Technology Outsourcing Contract from National Grid Transco

CSC to Support the UK's Largest Utility in Transforming its IT Infrastructure Operations

Computer Sciences Corporation (NYSE: CSC) today announced that it has signed an information technology (IT) infrastructure outsourcing agreement with National Grid Transco plc (NGT.L: London Stock Exchange and NYSE: NGG.N), a leading international energy delivery company. The contract is valued at approximately $470 million over seven years.

The agreement will support National Grid Transco’s continuing efforts to achieve improved efficiency and productivity in key back-office functions supporting its primary business.

Under the terms of the contract, CSC will manage and support National Grid Transco’s mainframe, application server, desktop, help desk and telecommunications services in the United Kingdom. The company will also undertake an infrastructure transformation program to establish and sustain service delivery at market-leading standards. Services provided by CSC will support more than 18,000 National Grid Transco users operating at locations throughout the United Kingdom.

“This agreement with CSC will further support our drive for IS to deliver increased levels of service and increased efficiencies to the business,” said Steve Holliday, Group Director, National Grid Transco. “In addition to providing additional IT expertise and new career opportunities for transferring staff, we anticipate the agreement will result in substantial cost savings over the seven-year term and contribute to the cost-efficiency targets set for National Grid Transco’s UK Distribution and Transmission businesses.”

“CSC is pleased to enter into this agreement with National Grid Transco,” said CSC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Van B Honeycutt. “Our experience in providing a broad spectrum of mission-critical services to the energy and utilities sectors make CSC an ideal choice to help companies such as National Grid Transco achieve tangible, transformational results from their IT investment.”

Upon compliance with the terms of UK TUPE (Transfer of Undertakings Protection of Employment) Regulations, approximately 330 NGT employees are expected to transfer to CSC in January 2004. In addition, CSC is expected to assume management responsibility for approximately 170 contractors.

In addition to leveraging CSC’s global resources and expertise to improve National Grid Transco’s IT infrastructure services capability, the agreement with CSC enables National Grid Transco’s retained IS organization to focus on the development and delivery of new IS capabilities and meet the changing needs of its business.

National Grid Transco selected CSC after a rigorous competitive evaluation process assisted by global sourcing advisory firm TPI.
