CSC-led Alliance wins $1.7 billion IT Services contract with the UK National Health Service
CSC, Hedra, iSOFT and SCC Join Forces to Improve Patient Care in the UK’s North West and West Midlands Region
Computer Sciences Corporation (NYSE: CSC) today announced that it has been awarded a $1.7 billion (973 million pounds sterling), Local Service Provider contract to run until 2013 with the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) as part of the NHS’ national program to improve healthcare service for patients in the North West and West Midlands of England.
Under the agreement, a CSC-led alliance will design, deliver and operate an integrated patient care record system, improving the way patient information is accessed and shared by 275,000 health professionals. The service will provide all NHS patients with an individual lifelong electronic care record, promoting seamless care for patients through physicians, hospitals and community services while allowing healthcare professionals to focus on more effectively delivering quality patient care.
"We are pleased to have been selected by the National Health Service," said CSC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Van B. Honeycutt. "CSC will leverage its extensive experience in healthcare and providing IT services to public sector organizations to deliver the results the NHS is seeking. This agreement enlarges CSC’s global healthcare base and represents a significant expansion of our work in the UK government sector."
"This is a hugely complex, but exciting challenge – one in which we are delighted to have been selected for," said Guy Hains, president of CSC’s UK Government Business. "By combining the NHS’ innovation already evident in this region with the expertise and experience of CSC and the alliance members, we are confident in our ability to deliver service that will be second-to-none."
Richard Granger, Director General of NHS IT, said, "I am delighted that we are now working with CSC in implementing such an important element of the National Program for IT, which will provide every patient an individual NHS Care Record."
"CSC’s commitment to this project has been clearly demonstrated throughout the procurement process and I look forward to working with them to deliver world-class services to patients and healthcare professionals alike."
The principal CSC alliance members include Hedra, a public sector change management specialist; iSOFT, whose application suite forms the core of the alliance’s software solution; and SCC, who will provide both infrastructure and desktop management services.
