CSC Introduces Suite of Application Modernization Services
News Release -- September 20, 2011
FuturEdge Helps Clients Shape, Transform and Manage their Software Portfolios
FALLS CHURCH, Va., Sept. 20 – CSC (NYSE: CSC) today unveiled FuturEdge, a comprehensive, modular services suite that helps clients modernize their application software portfolios. The suite unifies CSC’s best experience, processes and automation tools that have been developed and proven across a broad range of applications, technologies and environments over many years and hundreds of projects around the world.
Organizations are contending with aging, costly and complex application portfolios and seek help to make and implement decisions regarding application retirement, replacement or other transformational activities. CSC’s FuturEdge business-led services employ an industrialized framework, advanced automation, world-class delivery accelerators and market-leading application management practices to help companies make these decisions and free up maintenance dollars to invest in more innovative uses of IT. The full life-cycle scope includes analyzing, aligning, modernizing, managing and continuously improving organizations’ application portfolios, regardless of size, industry or location. These services can be used end to end or focused on a single application, platform assessment or transformation project.
“To have the ability to fund upcoming and agility-oriented projects, it is imperative that firms focus on reducing the ongoing maintenance costs associated with running the IT environment and lowering the total cost of ownership for hardware and software,” said Kimberly Harris-Ferrante, vice president and distinguished analyst at Gartner. “This means simplifying the IT environment, moving to lower-cost platforms and reducing redundancy in applications throughout the enterprise while ensuring scalability and optimal performance.”
“CSC is helping clients take a systematic approach to deciding how to evolve their application portfolios to rapidly increase agility, reduce costs and decrease business and operational risk,” said Jim Cook, president of CSC’s Business Solutions and Services sector.
Nick Wilkinson, president of market and product strategy for CSC’s Managed Services sector, added, “The FuturEdge systematic approach replaces ad hoc decisions made on the basis of technology with a business-led portfolio management strategy, enabling our clients to explicitly link their applications to the business value they deliver.”
The FuturEdge framework spans the entire application life cycle, from initial shaping through transformation to ongoing management. Demonstrating CSC’s commitment to application modernization, the company has invested in intellectual property across all aspects of the FuturEdge life cycle. Most recently, CSC acquired Quick Transformation Engine (QTE), a patent-pending automation capability that has delivered significant time, cost and risk reductions to many commercial clients and several CSC software modernization projects. QTE has been incorporated into the FuturEdge services framework – along with CSC’s proven processes and experienced global technical and industry application specialists – to further reduce the time, cost and risk of legacy modernization for FuturEdge clients.
