Shaping the Business World of the Future

Robert Barton:
A strategic management consultant with CSC Switzerland GmbH, author Robert Barton’s Global IT Management: A Practical Approach draws on his extensive professional IT experience throughout Europe, including three years as head of global IT strategy, architecture and standards at Novartis Pharma, a leading global pharmaceuticals corporation.

Les Bate:
Perl Fast & Easy Web Development provides guidance on Web development using practical extraction and reporting language (Perl), and understanding its hardware and software requirements. Since 1997, Perl has evolved into a commonly used default Web language. Bate, Senior Analyst Programmer, wrote this "crash course" to bring together everything needed to get started in Perl Web development.

Elfriede Dustin:
As assistant director of integration, test and deployment practices at CSC, Elfriede Dustin has observed and implemented successful and efficient testing programs. In her book Effective Software Testing, Dustin examines the role the testing program plays as a "quality gate" before software passes from the engineering environment to the real world. The book focuses on both the mechanics of testing and the surrounding tasks required of a testing program.

David Farneti:
Selling With Honor: Achieving Success Without Selling Your Soul explores the art of the sale, as well as the spiritual well-being of the salesperson. David Farneti, a CSC account executive, wrote this book based on years of experience as a stockbroker, business owner, consultant and salesperson. It provides valuable advice on closing the deal without losing your honor, integrity and self-respect.

Michael Hammer and James Champy:
This CSC duo is most celebrated for Reengineering the Corporation, the pioneering book that started the reengineering wave. The book spent one year on the New York Times bestseller list and has sold more than 25 million copies. The authors have individually written dozens of other business best sellers.

Johnny Long:
In his book, Google Hacking for Penetration Testers, CSC security expert Johnny Long details a potentially destructive hacking method that targets everyday Internet users and shows security practitioners how to protect their clients from Google hacking. The CD-based Penetration Tester's Open Source Toolkit, co-written by Long and James Foster, deputy director for CSC's Global Security Solutions group, includes case studies, guidelines and more than 300 of the most effective and commonly used open source attack and penetration testing tools.

Patrick Molineux:
An expert in customer relationship management, CSC author Patrick Molineux is best known for his book, Exploiting CRM, Connecting With Customers, where he proposes that businesses are no longer simply managing relationships with customers—customers are managing relationships with businesses.

David Moschella:
David Moschella, global research director for CSC in Europe, has written several books that shed light on the ever-changing IT industry. Customer-Driven IT: How Users Are Shaping Technology Industry Growth explains how customers, not vendors, are reshaping IT from a supply- to a demand-driven industry. Moschella also penned Waves of Power: Dynamics of Global Technology Leadership 1964-2010. This book provides a clear and concise examination of how the integration of computers, communications and consumer electronics will change global competition in the IT industry.

Jakob Mose:
A systems engineer for CSC in Denmark, Jacob Mose draws from his experience working with customer network security for his book Netværkssikkerhed. It describes the methods hackers use to break into corporate networks, and the countermeasures companies can use to prevent intrusions. Mose also co-wrote TCP/IP Bogen, the first book published in Danish about TCP/IP.

Mark Neff and Laurence Lock Lee:
Mark Neff, Senior Consultant of the CSC Knowledge Program, and Laurence Lock Lee, Principle Knowledge Management Consultant for CSC Australia's Collaboration and Knowledge Management Practice Unit, added their penmanship to Knowledge Networks: Innovation Through Communities of Practice. Their chapter, entitled "How Information Technologies Can Help Build and Sustain an Organization’s CoP: Spanning the Socio-Technical Divide?," addresses what has been done to support communities at CSC and BHP.

Lawrence M. Oliva:
Lawrence M. Oliva, a Project Management Director on CSC Army Programs for CSC's Civil Group, wrote Information Technology Security: Advice from Experts. This book provides a collection of interviews of corporate IT security practitioners offering various viewpoints on successes and failures in managing IT security in organizations. IT security issues are addressed using a Governance, Architecture and Technology framework. A special focus is placed on wireless network connections, countermeasures and IT risk management strategies.

Earl Parsons:
Structured Programming with COBOL Examples, by Earl Parsons, a Computer Scientist - Programmer Analyst for CSC's Financial Services Group, defines structured programming, and then uses COBOL programming examples to prove the definition. Through this process he also shows best practices in COBOL programming. Parsons has also written, The Database Experts Guide to IDEAL. IDEAL is a 4th generation mainframe language. This book describes both the syntax of the language, and best practices for its use. In addition to these books, Parsons has published articles on Enterprise Architecture Integration.

Charles Poirier:
A partner in CSC's supply chain practice and a prolific writer, Chuck Poirier is best known for his series of books on what companies can do to improve their supply chains. Among them: The Supply Chain Manager's Problem Solver, Advanced Supply Chain Management: How to Build a Sustained Competitive Advantage, E-Supply Chain: Using the Internet to Revolutionize Your Business, and, The Networked Supply Chain: Applying Breakthrough BPM Technology to Meet Relentless Customer Demands, which he co-authored with Lynette Ferrara, Francis Hayden and Douglas Neal, all with CSC's LEF Executive Program.

Poirier's most recent books include RFID Strategic Implementation and ROI, A Practical Roadmap to Success, which explores the technology and guides manufacturers, distributors and retailers through RFID adoption and implementation. The Wall Street Diet, Making Your Business Lean and Healthy encourages companies to make lifestyle and organizational changes that result in a leaner, healthier organization.

Sean Rhody:
Sean Rhody is the editor-in-chief of Web Services Journal and is a respected industry commentator and speaker. Rhody is also a Partner with CSC Consulting Group. One book that he has co-authored is Professional Java Data a collection of extended essays on essential Java/J2EE topics. This book looks at RDBMS issues, J2EE Architecture and a host of other key topics within J2EE. Rhody wrote the section on J2EE Architecture, which details many of the best practices Consulting Group applies in its J2EE work. Another book that he co-authored, Beginning Java Web Services, addresses how to do Web Services in a variety of ways using Java. It includes discussions of UDDI, WSDL, SOAP and XML, and also provides real-world examples from several popular toolkits for building Web Services.

Howard Smith:
CSC's European CTO, Smith, along with noted industry expert Peter Fingar, wrote Business Process Management: The Third Wave, which states that a revolution in the way enterprises use information technology for competitive advantage is on the horizon. The book details breakthroughs in process management thinking that promise to deliver significant business benefits. Smith is also the author of IT Doesn't Matter — Business Processes Do.

Lawrence J. Webber:
Lawrence J. Webber co-authored The Disaster Recovery Handbook: A Step-by-Step Plan to Ensure Business Continuity and Protect Vital Operations, Facilities, and Assets. The book is designed to help businesses survive any possible kind of disruption, and gives tools to protect them in the event of extraordinary circumstances. Webber, who is a Six Sigma Black Belt and Project Manager with CSC's Global Infrastructure Services group, has also published the IT Policies and Procedures book. This is a handy reference for instances in which assignments arrive on short notice. The text provides a background on the various subjects and decisions that must be made to implement such things as a Project Management Office, Asset Management, a data back up strategy, surviving an IT Audit, and more. Webber's third book, the IS Project Management Handbook, includes a chapter on incorporating Six Sigma tools into project management.
