CSC's Modeling and Simulation Center of Excellence provides a variety of simulation services ranging from high fidelity, single system component modeling to highly complex distributed simulations involving the integration of live, virtual and constructive entities. Services include:
- standards-compliant interfaces for legacy simulations
- high fidelity engineering simulations
- hardware-in-the-loop and man-in-the-loop simulations
- virtual systems and distributed simulations
- force-on-force simulations
- cross-domain simulation technology solutions
- 3D modeling and visualization
- synthetic environments
- object-oriented, multi-platform simulation development environment
The Center is involved in a variety of projects spanning the defense and commercial sectors. For a variety of U.S. Department of Defense customers, the Center models and analyzes systems in a simulated environment, enabling true-to-life interactions. This type of work reduces costs and development time for new products.
The Center has been driven to master new technologies and techniques as it assists the U.S. Army in transitioning to the new challenges of the 21st century. The establishment of the Army's Research, Development and Engineering (RDE) Command led to the first application experiment to integrate the Command's disparate systems and functional tools. The Center was the cornerstone of this experiment, which not only linked the RDE Command's locations, but also provided great insight into a networked approach to command, control and communications for geographically dispersed groups.
The Center's Virtual Environments group develops three-dimensional interactive models, virtual terrain databases, integrated simulation software for man-in-the-loop training systems, battlefield visualization, proof of concept, virtual prototyping and systems analysis.
Modeling and simulation technologies offer the promise of added value and reduced risk. In reality, however, many organizations never realize this promise because their modeling and simulation efforts are not integrated into their overall business plan. CSC's first step in an engagement is to gain insight into the client's requirements and facilitate a comprehensive plan for, and expectations about, the use of the right modeling and simulation tools and processes. CSC helps clients develop solutions, not isolated modeling and simulation products.
